Harri Sjöström
Born 29 February 1952 in Turku, Finland. Played piano, guitar and drums in his childhood. Studied music and fine art photography in San Francisco from 1974–1978; later film studies at the San Francisco Art Institute, saxophone and flute with Harry Man, Leo Wright, Friedhelm Schönfeld, Steve Lacy; further piano studies at the San Francisco Conservatory; attended special class for contemporary improvised music at the Lone Mountain College led by trombonist Johannes Mager; composition studies at the electro acoustic music department at Hochschule Für Musik Wien, Austria; composition class led by composers Prof. Haubenstock-Ramati and Prof. Friedrich Cerha.

The joyful, creative and intensive experiences with contemporary music, contemporary improvised music studies, and visual art studies captivated him so much that he has worked intensively ever since with contemporary improvised music, precent tme composition and in mixed media projects including film, photography, visual arts, theater and dance. Has participated in master courses and workshops held by John Cage, George Russell, Steve Lacy, Bill Dixon, Daniel Kientzy, Vinko Globokar, Evan Parker, Cecil Taylor. In 1980–1985 he lived in Vienna, Austria, which became his doorway to the European contemporary music scene; formed his first groups and organized numerous artist exchange-projects in Finland and elsewhere. Brought many most notable innovators on the international contemporary improvisation scene to Finland. One of his early projects included a tour with Derek Bailey Company, which was their first in Finland; Bailey´s visit in Finland was largely commented by the finish press as »the occurrence« of the year in the contemporary music scene; moved to Berlin in 1985.

Founded the international Quintet Moderne and co–founded the The Player Is–trio with Teppo Hauta-aho and Philipp Wachsmann, Harri Sjöström as well as founding the groups: Quartetto Finlandia, Wait, Motström, Up and Out, ECIO, (European Composers Improvisors Orchestra), Sestetto Internazionale, Trio Internazionale, co–founded the MOVE–quintet, City Of Pyramids – Casserley, DJ Illvibe, Morgan, Sjöström; since 1989 in collaboration with the British guitarist John Russell in Russells international Mopomoso (MOdernism
POstMOdernism) projects. In 1990, Harri met Cecil Taylor in Berlin and has an extensive working relationship with the legendary pianist and composer on many projects like Cecil Taylor Quintet Desperados (Cecil Taylor, Paul Lovens, Teppo Hauta-aho, Tristan Honsinger, Harri Sjöström), Cecil Taylor Quartet – Qua, Cecil Taylor "New Unit" (Cecil Taylor, Tony Oxley, Okkyung Lee, Jackson Krall, Harri Sjöström) and five recording releases with different C.T. ensembles; since the late 70s Harri performed at numerous international jazz and contemporary music festivals.

Additional collaborations in different projects with a.o. Bernahrd Arndt, James Andean, Yoko Arai, Matthias Bauer, Guy Bettini, Tony Buck, Sergio Castrillón, Angelo Contini, Markus Fagerudd, Emilio Gordoa, Frank Gratkowski, Teppo Hauta-aho, Steve Heather, Tristan Honsinger, Kalle Kalima, Achim Kaufmann, Veli Kujala, Jukka Kääriäinen, Okkyung Lee, Francesco Miccolis, Gianni Mimmo, Dag Magnus Narvesen, Heikki Nikula, Adam Pultz Melbye, Luca Pissavini, Günter Baby Sommer, Jone Takamäki, Janne Tuomi; occasionally performs solo and is involved in making film music. Harri Sjöström has been a saxophone teacher since 1980 and is a vital member of the European contemporary improvised music scene; he has composed music for film and is still active today with his photography.

Tom Jackson
is a clarinettist and saxophonist active in London and Europe, largely dedicated to the fields of contemporary classical music and free improvisation. He maintains an extensive and eclectic performance schedule and has performed throughout Europe, Australia and Hong Kong. Tom has performed as principal clarinet with many orchestras including New London Sinfonia and British Sinfonietta and National Chamber Orchestra of Wales. He has worked with various contemporary chamber groups such as Apartment House, Lontano, Plus-Minus, ChampdAction, Ictus, Splinter Cell and Cardiff New Music Collective, which he co-founded. He is an active session musician, playing for albums and live shows. He has recently completed a PhD at Canterbury Christ Church University on relational aesthetics and free improvisation.

`Most of the time its free of fireworks, the interest instead deriving primarily from an acute sensitivity to texture. It’s group improvising at its finest, conveying a sense not only of spontaneous composition but of genuinely collective spontaneous composition.´ Jazzwise

Daniel Thompson
was born in Norfolk, England and since 2005 currently resides in hackney, london, other than a couple of years playing violin as a child, his musical studies didn’t seriously begin until his late teens. Largely self-taught, after moving to London in 2005 Daniel embarked upon a life changing period. He studied with the guitarist John Russell for two years, "which provided me with one of the richest and most rewarding musical experiences of my life" and Daniel also spent many evenings listening to the trio of John Edwards, Tony Marsh and Evan Parker at The Vortex in East London who "collectively confirmed my musical direction".

Daniel is A part of the fertile improvising music scene and has played at many venues and festivals across the UK and Europe. As well as being a musician Daniel has been organising concerts since 2007 and organised the monthly ‘Foley Street improvised music concert series‘ in London during the years 2013 and 2016. foleystreet.wordpress.com

Adam Pultz Melbye
Born in Ribe, Denmark in 1981. Currently living in Berlin, is an active performer as a solo artist and with numerous international projects. A fascination with resonance, acoustics and psychoacoustics has led to the development of new instrumental techniques and approaches to the double bass that causes the instrument to sing and vibrate in unexpected ways.

Adam has written acoustic and electroacoustic music for smaller and larger ensembles as well as theatre, sound installations, dance and film and exhibits sculpture. He has toured over most of Europe, US, Japan and Australia and appears on 30+ albums. Bands and collaborations include: Flamingo, LUBB, Ens Ekt, Julia Reidy, Mark Sanders, Evan Parker, Axel Dörner, Akemi Nagao, Jenny Haack, Chris Heenan, Christian Windfeld and Robert Wechsler’s Palindrome Dance Company.

WARTELAND

„„Warteland is a place of waiting. It′s a waiting room, bus stop, queue, week, month, year, whole life… Waiting as a mystery of human existence referring to time, passing and death. Waiting as a physical and psychological state, philosophical concept, metaphor, symbol. Being in between, in emptiness, in nerves, excitement, thoughtfulness. I observe Warteland, examine this place, analyze it, becoming a scientist with the word, line and paper as a tool of cognition.

I compose conclusions — I draw, photocopy, cut, make transfers, take notes, write letters (non–letters, letters–tangles, letters–escapes, letters–non–letters). All drawings are created simultaneously, reflecting on each other, becoming their inaccurate copies. A study carried out in the second and third quarter of 2018 in Berlin, on the topic of waiting presented in the form of a drawing installation conducive to feelings of confusion, repetition, reflection, focus and introspection.”

LENA CZERNIAWSKA

Lena Czerniawska was born in 1989 in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki in Poland. During her childhood and youth, she was inspired by her mother Julia Wernio, who was a theatre director. Subsequently, her early influences came from the theatre, as well as the literature, music and visual art she was exposed to during these years.

Czerniawska lived in Wroclaw, and studied in studios of Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz, Eugeniusz Smolinski and Michal Jedrzejewski at Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Graphic Arts, also developing the beginnings of her practice within drawing and performing arts. Later, she began teaching at the academy as an assistant to professor Jacek Szewczyk. In 2017, Czerniawska moved to Berlin to focus on her individual career.

Her main artistic focus is drawing, and she sees this as the critical component of her practice from which her ideas are derived. Her work encompasses installation, graphic design and performing, particularly with experimental or improvised music. Conceptually, Lena’s multifaceted practice investigates reality through image and temporality, and aims at harnessing the various influences across media that she has embraced over the years.

Trying more to search rather than to find, she knows that ‘who finds did not search right’
(Aglaja Veteranyi).

Andrea Linss,
1964 geboren, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. Beruflich im sozialen Bereich tätig und seit 12 Jahren freiberufliche Fotografin. Ihre Schwerpunkte hat sie in Schwarzweiß– und Streetfotografie sowie Dokumentationen. Jahrelang hat sie in Kreuzberg den Kampf von Geflüchteten um ihr Bleiberecht dokumentiert, die stetige Gentrifizierung ihrer Stadt und den Kampf dagegen fotografisch begleitet. In der Streetfotografie gelingt es ihr, besondere Momente, Menschen, Atmosphären einzufangen und festzuhalten.

Die Ausstellung zeigt Portraits von Geflüchteten, die sie während eines Hungerstreiks kennen gelernt und lange begleitet hat, atmosphärisch dichte Straßenszenen von Paris und in ‚empty places‘ ihre ins Bild gesetzte Trauerarbeit, die mit dem leer gewordenen Platz ihrer Mutter beginnt und weitergeführt wird.

bio:
Julian Hartwell is a sought-after pianist, composer, bandleader, and educator
based in Philadelphia, PA. Over the past 15 years he has performed throughout a
wide swath of the Northeast — from jazz clubs to rock venues, music ministry to
high–class cocktail hours, weddings, jam sessions, and everything in between. A
graduate of Temple University’s renown jazz program, he now finds himself as an
adjunct professor for piano and music theory at his alma mater. Career highlights
so far include sharing the stage with major names like Christian McBride, Jimmy
Heath, and Jon Faddis at Lincoln Center with the TU Jazz Band among others.

on solo piano:
As a solo pianist, it is quite evident that Julian has undergone a thorough study
of the jazz idiom. His fresh takes on time–worn standards and the Great American
Songbook strike a balance with modern post–bop influences and contemporary
sophistication. On the more artistic side of the equation, Hartwell is an avid
composer of solo piano works, taking inspiration from many genres and influences
to craft a unique and evocative sound. Delving into realms of neo–classical, folk
music and improvisation, this more introspective side to his repertoire is ideally
suited to such endeavors as artistic collaborations, commissioned projects, film
scores or intimate house concerts. While Julian reveals this solo side to the world
much less frequently, you can be sure that an official release of this kind is
waiting in the wings for willing ears when the time is right.

Since meeting (at Ausland) in 2012 Schultze and Rose have combined their respective practices in composition and free improvisation in performances in Berlin, Cologne, London and Liverpool. Together they explore the openness and potential offered by piano preparations & extended saxophone techniques (their CD: ‘The Ten Thousand Things’ is due in 2015). Together with Dag Magnus Narveson and Jan Roder they will expand their collaboration to allow for the emergence of new areas and developments.

Heidi Rosins figurative Arbeiten bilden collagierte Bildflächen, darauf auf– und abgetragene Schichten aus Linien und Farben, Übermalungen und decollagierten Flächen. Ausgangspunkt ist meistens Gefundenes und Gesammeltes — Teile von Einkaufszetteln, Buchseiten, Briefen und Geschenkpapieren. Die Linien dazu schaffen sinnhafte Verbindungen und Assoziationen, oft von einzelnen Farben pointiert. Ein Spielen mit Hinzufügung und Zurücknahme, Vermischung und Trennung, Entwicklung und Vergänglichkeit, Chiffren, Symbole und Erinnerungen — manchmal humorvoll oder ironisch, manchmal widerspenstig und dunkel. Das Suchende in der Bildfindung wird nie verleugnet, die Vieldeutigkeit nie aufgehoben, aber Anhaltspunkte, die nach existentiellen Erklärungen verlangen, jedoch Eindeutigkeit der Deutung verweigern, werden fixiert.

Es ist schwer eine Musik zu beschreiben, die so ehrlich ist, jedem Song den Raum zu lassen, genau das zu sein, was er sein will. Der Sound der Band BJÖRN ist betörend, nackt und rau. Als Zuhörer fühlt man sich zwischen der Band sitzend, als seien die Klänge dicht am Ohr, fast im Kopf und dann im Herz. Es sind Lieder, die man auf dem Boden liegend hören will, die die Kälte vertreiben, der Zeit den Vogel zeigen und vom Menschsein erzählen. Es ist Popmusik mit komischen Instrumenten, akustischer Klang von Kontrabass, Posaune und Taschenkoffer, dazu elektronische Sounds. Dazwischen schwebt der Gesang, direkt und pur. Diese Musik ist keine Reise, es ist ein tiefes Eintauchen in die eigene Intimität.

Das Werk von Anna Krieps konzentriert sich auf den Übergang vom innigsten Wunsch hin zum kollektiven Traum und umgekehrt, von dem unendlich Kleinen hin zum unendlich Großen. Cosmic Dream ist ein Werk über die Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Universum, der Wunsch, mehr über das unendliche Universum kennen zu lernen und ihn zu erforschen.

This photographic work concentrates on the transition from the innermost wishes to the collective dream and conversely, from the infinite small to the infinite big. Cosmic Dream is a work about the connection between men and universe, the wish to get more knowledge about the infinite universe and to explore it.

„In einem absichtlich zufälligen Prozess entwickelt der seit 2007 in Berlin lebende Künstler Elmar Jacob aus dem Material heraus surreal anmutende Bilderzählungen. Zentrale Fragestellung dabei ist, inwiefern malerische und narrative Struktur einander erzeugen oder bedingen und folglich auch, was als real oder fiktiv gelten kann.

Ein unwirklicher Schneemann auf einem tumultigen Festplatz, umringt von skurrilen Gestalten, Affen und Palmen setzen der Realität so vielmehr einen Spiegel vor, als dass sie sie wiedergeben und geben sie eben hierin doch vielschichtiger und vielleicht wahrhaftiger wieder. In humoristischer, teilweise comichafter oder bewußt kruder Manier verweist Jacob immer wieder auf solche Divergenzen und macht deutlich, dass es keine linearen oder gar realen Erzählungen gibt. Dass der Mensch sich dennoch stetig daran versucht, zeigen auch übergezeichnete Sachillustrationen auf, in denen die Dargestellten aus ihren einheitlichen und vorgefundenen Posen gelöst und in stark verfremdete Kontexte gesetzt werden.

Ein Oszillieren zwischen vorgefundener Wirklichkeit und Fiktion führt auch hier zu neuen und überraschenden Zusammenhängen.”

Tommaso Vespo
Tommaso Vespo began studying piano at early age. Since 2000, he started playing concerts both in solo and with musicians such as P.Sorge, F.Cusa, A.Amato, A.Vicard, A.Longo, A.Aiello, S.Barbagallo, Naked Musicians. He joined the collective Improvvisatore Involontario (2010–2013 and organized festivals (Aprile, don′t dormire; i! festival) and clubs (Jazz around midnight; Algorythmn). In March 2011 was on tour with Naked Musicians (guests C.Zavalloni, M.Pagani, E.Sharp) in New York, where he performed at Columbia University and other venues. Since 2012, he joins the RARA Festival playing with many musicians as M.Fischer, T.Brown, J.Kochan. Same year he joined Pasto Collettivo. In December 2012 he started collaborations with musicians from Berlin, as cellist Hui-Chun Lin. Since the 2013, he joined the Berlin Improvisers Orchestra where first performed at the B-Flat Club. In Berlin he met amazing exponents of the new-impro-scene such as A.Kaluza, W.Georgsdorf, H.Nonnemacher, S.Bleier, R.Tejero, A.Blunt, M.Siebenstadt, N.Taylor, N.Hein, M.Capurso, U.Mengerberg, K.Kuerves, T.Hosinger and many others. In 2013, he first played in London at Vortex Club with N.Taylor, T.Wheatley, J.Garcia and at Arch1 with K.Grant, M.Mattos, R.Sutherland e G.Viltard; came back to London twice in 2016, where in February he played first time with the London Improvisers Orchestra and at Iklectik with S.Lynch, A.Northover and A.Bohman and, in November, for the MultiOvLondon festival in trio with N.Stammberger and P.Winters and in quintet with M.Siebenstädt, J.Kjaer, H.Marshall & R.Musson. Same year, he played again with the Ber.I.O. (January and September); in April, he was invited at Amsterdam for the Oorsprong Curators Series and for a recording with R.VanDerWeide and O.Goavert. For the RARA 2016, among others he joined D.Catanuto, E.Flunger and J.Mobilia for an Omage à Bartok. He released cds including Tree forms, (Forthcoming trio, i! 2013), Stones of Contention (Citystream 2014), MIRA (I.R.A. 4et, 2015); new releases are scheduled for the 2017.

Daigo Nakai
Daigo Nakai is an improvising musician/bass player, has recently moved to Berlin from Melbourne in Australia. He has been invited to perform in Festivals and concerts across Australia, Japan and Europe as well as independently curated events in Melbourne. Daigo has performed as a session musician appearing in many ensembles including Melbourne based group Captain Apples and Miss Colombia, as well as Ade Ishs Trio – of which Daigo has been a member for 4 years.

Adrian David Krok
Adrian David Krok is a Polish drummer living and working in Berlin. He is involved in a wide variety of musical projects, mostly in the direction of free improvisation, free jazz and experimental music. After studying music for a short time in Switzerland, he left the academic music world and continued to expand his technique and personal approach through self education and experience. His approach to the drums embodies a combination of static grooves and beats with extended techniques and more textural elements, utilizing objects and preparations in addition to playing in the traditional manner. His playing is characterized by an incredible sensitivity and awareness, but is at the same time powerful and direct. He has performed and toured across China, Switzerland, Poland, Germany and Austria with a wide range of artists from many different genres, including jazz, rock and pop, in addition to more experimental and improvised music. Among others, he has worked with Mateusz Rybicki, Gregor Siedl, Abigail Sanders, the Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra, Rieko Okuda, Antti Virtaranta, Nana Pi Larsen, Simon Rose, Lan Cao, Christopher Uhe, Michiyasu Furutani, Adam Goodwin, Antoine Mermet, Miriam Siebenstädt, and Lennart Heyndels, Marialuisa Capurso, Liz Kosack, Edith Steyer, Eric Wong, Eric Trejo Santiago, Davide Piersanti, Davide Lorenzon, Brianne Curan, Antonio Bravo, Michele Pedrazzi, Kriton Beyer, Amélie Legrand, Tatsumi Ryutsy, Caroline Cecilia Tallone, Wojtek Makowski, Emilio Gordoa, Scott Weiner, Andreas Willers, Gerhard Gschlößl, Masahiko Ueji and Klaus Schöpp.

Lebensbejahend, dramatisch und gefühlvoll —
mit diesen Eigenschaften gelten Sirocco als eine der aufregendsten neuen Bands der aktuellen schwedischen Weltmusikszene. Siroccos Musik geht von der umfangreichen Bandbreite jüdischer Musik aus, mit Liedern auf Jiddisch, Ladino, Hebräisch und Arabisch sowie alten arabischsprachigen andalusischen Liedern. Sirocco verleiht diesen alten Liedern eine neue Note und würzen sie mit ihrem eigenen einzigartigen Sound, der von südamerikanischer und nordischer Musik sowie Flamenco inspiriert ist.

Sofa Berg–Böhm (Gesang)
Sofa begann in jungen Jahren Lieder auf Jiddisch zu singen. Als sie die arabische Musik kennengelernte, verliebte sie sich in diesen Stil und studierte klassischen arabischen Gesang für bei dem Oud–Meister Mousa Elias. Sofa singt auch in der Balkan–Brassband Östblocket und ist in Schweden eine bekannte Theater–Schauspielerin.

Patrik Bonnet (Gitarre, Oud)
Patrik studierte Flamenco–Gitarre in Sevilla und Madrid und ist einer der Top–Flamenco–Gitarristen in Skandinavien. Patrik ist mit unterschiedlichen Bands durch Europa, Afrika, Asien und den Nahen Osten getourt.

Jonas Bleckman (Cello)
Energetsch, verspielt und sehr rhythmisch hat Jonas sich schnell als einer der meistgefragtesten Cellisten in Skandinavien etabliert. Er war auf Tour mit Musikern wie Jon Henrik Fjällgren, Moneybrother, Erlend Viken Trio, FAB und Six String Yada.

Robin Cochrane (Perkussion)
Als Meister der groovigen Trommeln und Perkussion ist Robin Cochrane mit großartgen schwedischen Künstlern fast aller Musikrichtungen aufgetreten und hat mit ihnen aufgenommen, darunter der Folk–Musiker Ale Möller, die Reggae–Legende Peps Persson und der Sami–Rapper und Aktvist Maxida Märak.

Luc Houtkamp (born 1953 in Den Haag) is a composer who bridges the gap between different worlds of music.

Having a background in jazz & improvised music as a saxophone player, his musical goal is to establish a continuum between improvisation and composition in which the difference between the two dissolves. With the aid of computers and live electronics as well as various forms of music notation his compositions are highly personal in both sound and concept. Stylistic freedom is not a post-–modern cliché, but based on his belief that musical style is secondary in importance and they′re to serve the expressive quality of the music itself. His main interest in his pieces is the way in which the musicians play together, and how this can be directed by means of composition and the use of computers.

After a long–standing career as an improvising musician, Houtkamp established his own POW Ensemble in 2002. Being a flexible unit of musicians with musical backgrounds in jazz, rock, electronic and contemporary music, it soon became the ideal body for the performance of his own composition.

„(…) In many of his projects, Houtkamp′s main goal has been to create music that is essentially improvised but nonetheless gives an almost symphonic feel of being through–composed, with themes, counter–subjects, variations and other traditional formal constructs. And although he professes admiration for many Jazz musicians, the traditional structure of Jazz performances, with improvised variations sandwiched between opening and closing statements of the theme, is something Houtkamp has always strongly disliked. So, rather than putting improvised and composed structures side by side, it is the act of smelting them together that excites Houtkamp, who is more than happy to get his fingers metaphorically very dirty in the musical melding and formal moulding of his materials. This combination of rigour and flexibility has proven central to the formation of Houtkamp′s creative personality and distinctive compositional voice. For Houtkamp, cultural and personal identity is fluid, finding power in change. But what is exciting about the music he makes is that this change does not take place without resistance; without jagged juxtapositions, musical anomalies and moments of surreal humour acting as counterweights to the unifying musical forces Houtkamp is constantly searching out.“

Hannes Buder (born 1978 in the former GDR) is a musician,
improviser and composer in the field of experimental music.
His works concentrate on issues of movement, authenticity, intuition, minimalism, density and slowness.

Buder′s current projects include the bands ‘Zug Zug’ with Todd Capp and Andrew Lafkas, ‘Gravity’ with Hannes Lingens and Andrew Lafkas, the duo with Luc Houtkamp and his solo project. Beyond that he has collaborated with Audrey Chen, Tony Buck, Audrey Lauro, Hilary Jeffery, Mike Majkowski, Matthias Bauer, Steve Heather, the Berlin Improvisers Orchestra and many others. Hannes Buder&primes Solo recordings include “changes” (2000), “dunkelbunt&lrdquo; (2004), “openyoureyescloseyoureyes” (2006) and “changes II” (2015). He performed concerts in Europe, Australia and in the USA.

Buder has also composed, improvised and recorded music for different dance (Oxana Chi, Judith Sanchez Ruìz), theater (Jörg Mihan, Johannes Maria Schmit) and film projects (Barbara Lubich, Annick Gaudreault). He&primes been working temporarily as a teacher⁄workshop leader at different festivals, music schools and with prisoners in jail. He studied guitar at the Carl Maria von Weber Conservatory in Dresden and the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Weimar.

Mike and Joss Turnbull are both sought-after percussionists for concerts on international stages. Born and bred in the north English harbour Liverpool the half Scottish half English Mike Turnbull has made Germany the centre point of his life since the mid–eighties where he, amongst other things, teaches hand percussion on Hochschule für Musik, Detmold.

Over the years Joss Turnbull has developed his own percussionlanguage with drums of the near East, electronics and preparation objects. Joss often played duo concerts with his father Mike in his early years but it took until 2015 for the trio TURNBULLS with the third member of the family, Josefine Turnbull, to be formed.

The trio has shown itself to be something far different from what one would normally expect from a family band. Meaningful lyrics sung by Josefine´s clear and graceful voice are woven into an unusually sensitive and multi-dimensional sound. Pulsating percussion, electro–acoustic effects and raw grooves meet her floating voice. The rare instrumentation of percussion and vocals together with the personal line–up of father, daughter and son help to make this band unique. A chamber music experiment somewhere between Nujazz and Minimal–Pop that gets under the skin. Joss, Josefine and Mike Turnbull show with their Debut-CD „TURNBULLS” an innovative and sensitive use of lyrics, sound and song structure:

Rieko Okuda is a pianist and a composer. She began with classical music from the age of 3, in Japan. In her young age, she attended to Kaizuka city Piano Competition, and got the first prize. Later then moved to USA to study and learn Jazz music. She fell right into the Jazz scene in USA, performing with some of the great American Jazz musicians (Bob Mintzer, Jon Faddis, John Fedchock etc.) Also, she got interested in Free Jazz and Improvised music scene while she was in Phliladelphia. She performed with the great improvisers includes Marshall Allen from San Ra Orchestra, Elliott Levine (recorded with Cecil Taylor), and Calvin Weston (recorded with Ornette Coleman. She has performed in Jazz Festivals throughout her stay in USA. Her interests in Improvised music led her to move to Berlin and perform with various musicians. Currently, she performs with Audrey Chen, Els Vendaweyer, Susanne Zapf (from Sonar Quartet), Yuko Kaseki, Axel Dörner, ect. She also performs at several experimental festivals: XChange Festival, Experymental Festival, and Art–Sound Festival

Er ist Dozent an der Hochschule hdpk Berlin. Spielte mit Peter Herbolzheimer, Joe Pass, Mike Stern, Barbara Thomson, Dino Saluzzi, Wolfgang Dauner, John Hiseman, Herb Geller, Michael Gibbs u.a.

Robert Teigler
verkaufte als Komponist, Texter, Bassist und Produzent (Sarah Connor, Kool & the Gang, Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht, Marc Terenzi, etc.) weit mehr als 3 Mio. CDs weltweit, wurde mit ca. 2 Dutzend Gold– und Platinplatten ausgezeichnet.

… Die Mezzosopran–Stimme von anna.laclaque verstört mit ihren Ansätzen eines opernhaften Modus von Arie und Koloratur. Ihre klassisch ausgebildete Stimme oszilliert zwischen Operngesang, Noise und Lautproduktion. Sie rezitiert dadaistische Textfragmente, singt und moduliert variantenreich und trägt damit gemeinsam mit der eingesetzten Elektronik zu einem gelungenen, höchst suggestiven Klangkosmos bei. Dieser entspricht exakt dem, was Ralf Haarmann aus seiner Hard– und Software, z.T. mit Mandoline eingespielt und als Live–Sampling eingesetzt, an Klangzauber entwickelt…

In „Träume von Räumen” schreibt Georges Perec „Leben heißt, von einem Raum zum anderen gehen und dabei soweit wie möglich zu versuchen, sich nicht zu stoßen.” Das Duo HaarmannHommelsheim bewegt sich durch den Raum, thematisiert dabei jedoch den Raum und nicht ihr psycholgisches Selbst. Sie treten hinter die Musik zurück und bieten ihrem Publikum eine Folie für ihren eigenen Themenpark.

Christiane Hommelsheim,
geb. 1970, ist Vokalistin, Stimmperformerin, Improvisatorin, Videokünstlerin und Stimmlehrerin. In ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit erforscht sie immer wieder die Besonderheiten und Möglichkeiten ihrer eigenen Stimme im Beziehungsfeld von Stimme, Körper und Bewusstsein, sowie alle möglichen ‘extended voice’–Techniken.

Ralf Haarmann,
geb. 1970, komponiert Musik, baut klingende Räume und entwirft Softwareinstrumente. Zentrales Thema seiner Arbeit ist die Verzahnung von Dingen, die wirklich passieren und was diese Realität in einem Musikkosmos auslösen können. Die Wirklichkeit fungiert als Triggerimpuls. Die entstehenden Klänge werden simultan elektronisch eingefangen und mittels Echtzeitmanipulation im Computer gesampelt, verfremdet und geloopt.

Kurz vor ihrem Tod sprach die in Neukölln geborene Schauspielerin Eva Renzi für die Galerie bauchhund den Text ‘DIENSTAG’ von Gerhard Rühm auf Band.

Zum elften Todestag der großen Künstlerin präsentiert Christoph agi Böhm dieses einzigartige Tondokument an fünf Dienstagabenden im August, zusammen mit verschiedenen Erbstücken wie ihren Kochtöpfen oder ihrem Schminkkoffer.

das wort NEIN in den verschiedensten sprachen der welt, um es in radiergummies zu schnitzen und in unbegrenzter auflage zu stempeln, unter anderem auf europäische geldscheine.

eine art landschaftsmalerei mit lackresten, leim, schleim, dreck und ofenruß auf selbst abgetragener arbeitskleidung, gespickt mit kaputtem werkzeug und gerahmt auf halbem wege zum antisymbolisch, sinnlich objekthaften.

zentraler bestandteil dieser ausstellung ist schließlich eine seit zwei jahren wachsende ansammlung von flaschen, die eine ambivalente umgangsweise zwischen konservierung und vernichtung überkommener werte manifestieren. eigene und fremde graphik, fotos, fundstücke, landkarten, liebesliebesbriefe, besonders gute und besonders schlechte werke der weltliteratur, notizen, flyer und andere relikte vergangener ereignisse akribisch in streifen geschnitten, gerollt, in flaschen geworfen, mit erde, wasser und anderen substanzen versetzt, um gärungsprozesse in gang zu setzen, durchgeschüttelt und schließlich verkorkt. ob mikrokosmos oder flaschenpost, zettelmann entwirft eine dystopie, in der die verweigerung jeder weltverbesserung als die kleinste katastrophe für den planeten erscheinen könnte. oder macht er sich nur darüber lustig?”

Antoine BIROT ‘CURIEUSES MÉCANIQUES’

Außer Schöpfer von Spektakeln und Installationen, ist der Musiker und Komponist Antoine Birot ebenfalls Erfinder und Konstrukteur von Maschinen, die der Erzeugung von Träumen und dem Erwecken des Imaginären gewidmet sind.

Eine selbstständige Maschine, deren einziger Meister der Künstler selbst ist; von der Idee über die Struktur bis zum Bau. Von da an wird sie zu Objekten in Bewegung. Die Objekte, aus denen sie aufgebaut ist, sind bald eine Puppe aus Bronze, bald ein Bleistift, ein Löffel, ein ausgeformter Arm, eine Struktur.

Zusammen charakterisieren sie eine elementare Geste. Die Nicht–Existenz eines Inhalts erlaubt es, den Fokus auf die Handlung zu setzen, die eine Verlockung zur Schlichtheit und zum Wesentlichen enwickelt.

Die Bewegung und der Klang, in ihrer Wiederholung und Dauer, diese gewisse Latenz, eine Saumseligkeit, die aus der mechanischen Geste etwas poetisch Lebendiges macht. Sie wird heimgesucht von einem Wunsch zur Ewigkeit. Und dennoch ist die Maschine im Gegenteil aus dem Wunsch zur Abschaffung gearbeitet. Ihre Emergenz wird unterfüttert von der Panne, der Katastrophe, dem Tod, der ihr droht.

Créateur de spectacles ⁄ installations, musicien et compositeur, tant dans les domaines des musiques improvisées que des musiques du Monde, Antoine Birot est aussi concepteur–constructeur de machineries destinées à produire du rêve et éveiller l′imaginaire. Il présente son théàtre de curieuses mécaniques, fait de rouages poétiques où il se joue, avec luminosité, de l′art du mouvement (perpétuel).

Si l′on considère que la machine sert à effectuer certaines tàches, certains travaux, loin du robot, nouvelle technologie copie conforme de l′humain, la machine d′Antoine Birot suit une nostalgie de la mécanique. Une machine autonomeoù le seul maître est l′artiste lui-même de l′invention à la production en passant par sa structure.

La machine est traditionnellement perçue par sa fonction utilitaire. La complexité de nos rapports avec la machine suscite à la fois une fascination euphorique et ludique et une sourde inquiétude, une sombre menace. On est grisé par les perspectives ouvertes par la machine : on peut aller plus loin, plus vite, parcourir et conquérir le monde, voire l′espace, ou mieux encore, créer des mondes parallèles. Dans l′univers des constructions d′Antoine Birot, cette fonction même est remise en question, proposant ainsi tout un champ nouveau d′appréhension de la machine qui devient lieu de tous les imaginaires possibles.

De là, elle devient objets en mouvement. Les objets constitutifs sont tantôt un pantin en bronze, un crayon, une cuillère, tantôt un bras articulé, une structure.

Chaque installation permet de faire un focus sur l′action qui révèle un attrait pour la simplicité et l′essentiel en marge d′un rituel souvent opulent associé à la vie. Le geste raconte une histoire, simple et continu. Chaque installation questionne notre rapport au monde, ce qui nous lie à la vie, les liens entre l′homme et la machine, les éléments dépouillés, constitutifs de ces sculptures de la suggestion, renvoient très distinctement à une modestie sociale.

En enlevant tous éléments symboliques, le public peut tourner autour de ces pièces et se laisser emporter par l′abstraction qu′elles en dégagent. Le mouvement et le son répétés et continu. Telles une latence, une lenteur qui transforme ce geste mécanique en poétique du vivant. Elle est hantée par un désir d′éternité. Et pourtant, La machine, au contraire, est travaillée par un désir d′abolition. Son émergence est doublée par la panne, la catastrophe, la mort qui la menace.

Shadows, Fairies and Me

Solo Performancekonzert von Christiane Hommelsheim

Allein auf der Bühne begleitet sich Christiane Hommelsheim mit ihren verschiedenen Stimmen. Mit Hilfe eines Loopsamplers kreiert sie Klanglandschaften, auf denen sich ihre Texte und Videobilder ausbreiten. Während sie bislang als Co-Performerin von David Moss oder Stimmakrobatin im Duo „haarmannhommelsheim” in Erscheinung trat, wagt sie nun mit „Shadows” den Alleingang, allerdings begleitet von ihren vielen Stimmen.

The italian alto sax player Jòraku Gianni Gebbia started his own professional solo concert in 1990 following an invitation by Jost Gebers from FMP to play in Berlin in the legendary Total Music Meeting featuring Gebbia himself along with Steve Lacy, Lindsay Cooper, Dietmar Diesner and Rudiger Carl. After this deep experience, and stimulated by Steve Lacy, Gebbia continued with unique strenght and concentration his personal research on solo saxophone playing in most of the specialized festivals in Europe, USA and Japan. During the years Gebbia solos have been transforming and touching many different sides of this form from noise research to melodies through a deep mastering of the circular breathing techniques that Gebbia has learned through the late master of Sardinian launeddas Dionigi Burranca. Critics consider Gebbia’s solos as one of the most interesting of the second generation of improvisors along with similar artists as Ned Rothenberg, and John Butcher. Today many players in the solo scene declared to be strongly influenced by Gianni Gebbia’s solo recordings from the 1990s as in the case of the solo sax player Colin Stetson, John Berndt, Ryoko Ono, Mick Barr and many others.
